In the US, about 7% of men and 10% of women will develop PTSD at some point in their lifetime. While people in the military and other high-stress jobs such as paramedics, police, firefighters, and other first responders are at higher risk, these are not the only people at risk for trauma-related disorders. Anyone that goes through a traumatic event can develop symptoms. Even people who interact with trauma survivors can develop secondary trauma responses that can also cause issues. If you or a loved one is suffering from anything like this, it is important to seek out help and resources that can help you better understand and deal with the effects of any past trauma.
